Musician receives offer for GTA 6, is happy at first, then declines and complains about Rockstar Games – argues with horrified fans

The English musician Martyn Ware (63) says he received an offer from Rockstar Games, the gaming studio wanted to use one of his songs for GTA 6: the 80s hit Temptation. At first he was happy about the offer, but then his joy quickly disappeared. Because he found the offer to be an absolute cheek. Fans of Grand Theft Auto 6 wanted to convince him to accept the offer. But Ware strongly disagrees with them.

Who is the musician Martyn Ware?

  • Martyn Ware is a musician and composer. He founded two synth pop groups: Human League and Heaven 17. But that was over 40 years ago.
  • One of his hits was in April 1983 with “Temptation” by Heaven 17.
  • Rockstar wanted to buy this exact song from him for GTA 6.

Musician is happy about the offer to be in GTA 6 – Then he sees what Rockstar is offering him in money

This is what the musician writes: Martyn Ware wrote on Twitter on September 7: His publisher sent him an email saying that Rockstar Games had asked if they could use the song “Temptation” in Grand Theft Auto 6.

He was very excited and thought about the immense wealth that awaited him.

Ware quickly scrolled down the email. The 63-year-old musician then saw that Rockstar Games was offering him $7,500 (about €6,720) for the use of the song as a one-time payment and without him ever seeing another cent from the game – ever.

He says Grand Theft Auto 5 earned $8.6 billion, but he should think about how much attention that brings him.

His tweet ends with: “Go fuck yourself” – which translates to: No thanks.

    Rockstar rejects counter offer

Did it go any further? Yes, the musician says he asked for £75,000 (about €89,000).

    Rockstar refused.

Did GTA 6 really make $8.6 billion? No, that number is nonsense. GTA 6 hasn’t earned anything yet. He obviously confused it with GTA 5.

GTA 6 fans say: Think again.

How is this discussed? Most of those in the comments are urging him to accept the offer, with some even calling him an irrelevant idiot who is missing out on the opportunity to once again become part of the pop culture hotness.

So Rockstar fans are basically saying: Nobody knows you. You made a huge mistake here. You could have been in the “best game” of all time and become immortal.

Others are also asking him to reconsider. GTA has 440 songs – you can’t pay a fortune for each one. The money he gets doesn’t matter – millions of people will rediscover his song.

Others, however, say that the rejection was justified. The offer was a disgrace given its dimensions. And you can’t buy anything with “attention.”

Musician starts fight with fans of GTA 6, calls them corporate bitches who have no clue

What does the musician say about this? He said in a series of tweets this morning, September 8th, that he is not an idiot. He knows the game, so he knows what they can pay. He knows about music rights, he has been dealing with it for 20 years.

The people who insulted him here were corporate bitches who should stop kneeling before the industry.

Anyone who tells him that “attention” brings so much should remember that 1 million streaming views only bring the author of a song about $1,000 in royalties.

For many, GTA 6 is the next big game. For some, it is even the great hope of revitalizing the somewhat ailing gaming industry. We have compiled all the information we know so far in one article: GTA 6 – All information about the release, the platforms and the trailers
