The mistake many dog owners make
A study from 2022 by the US Food and Drug Administration, FDA, shows that only 22 percent of all dog owners clean their dog’s food bowl once a week.
The survey also shows that 18 percent do not wash the dog food bowl at all, or only clean it every three months.
When dog food bowls are not cleaned often enough, dogs are exposed to health risks. A food bowl that is not cleaned often enough can create a breeding ground for harmful bacteria such as salmonella and listeria.

News24 have talked to Hannah, licensed veterinary nurse at Agria, about how often you should actually clean your dog’s food bowl.
– You need to do that at least once a day, she tells Nyheter24.
To clean the food bowl properly, it is not enough to rinse it with warm water.
– In addition to rinsing the food and water bowls, you also need to wash them with detergent and a separate dish brush, sponge or similar that is only used for the dog’s bowls and then rinse them thoroughly. It is especially important to be careful about hygiene if you give the dog fresh food, Hanna explains to Nyheter24.
