Football: Isak Hien: “I had been driven”

In the 3-1 victory against Azerbaijan in the C division of the Nations League, Sweden’s defense often looked shaky. Union captain Jon Dahl Tomasson wants to see improvement and Isak Hien – who caused a penalty that Viktor Johansson saved – is self-critical.

But he does not take criticism from those outside the national team.

  • Jon Dahl Tomasson on the choice to bench Hugo Larsson in the match against Azerbaijan

  • – We should not allow so many chances against Azerbaijan. All of us, including me, must do better. You work as a team and I try to relate to my coach’s opinions and the opinions of my teammates. If there’s even the slightest thing they want me to improve or think about, I do it. But if I would have included everyone’s opinion, I would have been run over by now, says Isak Hien.

The 25-year-old has been error-prone in previous international matches. Where form and confidence from the club team Atalanta has not spread to Blågult.

    – What makes it easier is that you are there all the time. You work on the same things continuously. You have a completely different amount of training with your teammates, that has been extra useful for me. Then it’s not an excuse, but it’s the same for everyone in national team football, says Isak Hien.
