Volvo Passenger Cars Aktiebolag, Volvo Car Group, or Volvo Cars – dear just has many names. The brand was founded in 1915, while the first series-produced passenger car left the factory at Hisingen in 1927.
It was about one Volvo ÖV 4also called Jacob. The price of the car was SEK 4,800 and the top speed was 90 km/h. That is SEK 173,000 in today’s money.

If you take a look at the vehicle register, you will notice that it is full of Volvo cars from the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. Among these, some of the Volvos are owned by themselves, but quite a few have also ended up with private collectors around the country.
There is, for example, a fully functional Volvo ÖV 4 from 1927 that runs on Swedish roads.

But which is actually the world’s oldest Volvo?
That car can be found at the Gothenburg City Museum and is a prototype of ÖV 4. The car is from 1926 and was donated to the museum as early as 1935. It is undeniably a piece of Swedish automotive history.
The car in question was one of ten prototypes produced, and among the first six. This prototype was manufactured in Stockholm and then driven down to the west coast.
Today it is the world’s oldest surviving Volvo prototype. The oldest production car is thus an ÖV 4 from 1927, mentioned above.
