Brazilian bossa nova master Sergio Mendes has died News

The Brazilian musician died at the age of 83 after battling for months with the after-effects of covid.

Grammy-winning Brazilian musician Sergio Mendes has died.

Mendes died of long-term after-effects of covid at the age of 83 on Thursday. His family confirmed the death on Friday.

– His wife and musical partner of 54 years, Gracinha Leporace Mendesand his children were by his side, the family said in their press release.

Brazilians media say that Mendes died in Los Angeles, where he lived.

Mendes’ most famous hit was Mas Que Nada, which made him known worldwide. It was one of the songs that popularized bossa nova around the world in the 1960s.

In 2006, Mendes made a song with the Black Eyed Peas modern versionwhich became a hit in the United States and other parts of the world. The reissue was followed by the album Timeless, produced by will.i.am. Others also appeared on the album Stevie Wonder and Justin Timberlake.

– Sergio Mendes was my brother from another country. He was a true friend and an enormously talented musician who elegantly brought Brazilian music to the attention of the whole world, writes the trumpeter Herb Alpert in memory of his friend.

Mendes also made the music for the Pelé film about the football legend.

Mendes received an original song Oscar nomination in 2012 for the song “Real in Rio” in the animated film Rio. He received the Grammy award for the best world music album with his Brasileiro album.
