New measures impacting family life came into force on September 1st. Find out more.
Like every 1st day of the month in France, new measures come into force. September is no exception and some new developments concerning students, like retirees, are worth knowing. Here are the latest changes.
Retirement pensions are revalued
Starting this September, more than a million retirees will see their pensions increase. An increase linked to a reform aimed at improving the minimum contribution for retirees who have had a full career but with modest incomes.
On average, the increases will amount to 56 euros net per month, with a ceiling set at 847.57 euros per month for pensions under the general scheme.
STI screening becomes free for young people
To improve the prevention of STIs (sexually transmitted infections), young people under 26 will now have free access to screening for gonorrhoea, chlamydia, syphilis and hepatitis B, in addition to HIV.
For even greater simplicity, these tests will also be available without a prescription.
The withholding tax is adjusted
The withholding tax rate will be adjusted from this September based on the previous year’s tax returns. Thus, if your income has changed, you may see a change in your net salary. A rate to check (and which can be modified) on the impots.gouv.fr website if necessary.
The right to the scholarship is automatically studied
Until now, families with a child in middle or high school had to make a specific application to obtain a scholarship. From now on, this examination of eligibility for a school scholarship is automatic, if the family agrees when registering the child in the establishment.
The procedure allows household income information to be transmitted directly to the tax authorities to find out whether or not the household is eligible for a grant paid in three installments at the start of each quarter.
The rules on liquids on airplanes are making a comeback
When it comes to travel, passengers will once again have to comply with strict rules regarding liquids in cabin baggage. The European Commission has once again imposed the “100 ml rule” in airports since Sunday, September 1, 2024, which it had removed. As a result, air travelers will have to reopen their cabin baggage during security checks.
