With two months to go until the US presidential election, both candidates have their eyes set on the seven key states, and in particular Michigan, which could swing the election. For the moment, the polls are very close: 44.7% for Donald Trump and 43.5% for Kamala Harris. The African American community could well make the difference on the Democrats’ side, especially in the big cities. In the eastern neighborhoods of the city of Detroit, the black population, which suffered the city’s bankruptcy in 2013, is regaining hope with the candidacy of the country’s current vice president.

Outside, Martin takes care of the neighborhood garden. He still remembers a time when houses lined the streetmost of them were abandoned and then demolished. The young man therefore hopes that the Democratic candidate will be sensitive to the most deprived “I think she’s a woman with a big heart, and she was a prosecutor, right? So I have confidence that she can make things better, and I think she’s ready. She’s pretty well rounded and she has what it takes to be the next president of the UNITED STATES ” he says confidently.
Further on, posted at the bus stop, Walter does not hide his enthusiasm to see Kamala Harris enter the Oval Office.I would love to see a black woman in this position. I am 64 years old and I have seen a lot in this world but I never thought I would see a black president, especially a woman! That would be a historic double! ” he enthuses. According to a latest poll, Kamala Harris would obtain 70% of the African-American vote in Michigan, that’s 20% more than Joe Biden before he withdrew from the race.
