Concord, Sony’s new multiplayer shooter, was a flop. But even though the servers will shut down on September 6, 2024, scalpers are offering the PS5 version of the game on eBay for unbelievably high sums.
What about Concord? The multiplayer shooter from Firewalk Studios and Sony was not successful or popular enough on PC and PlayStation 5 and will be shut down just a few days after its launch. Specifically, the servers are scheduled to shut down on September 6, 2024.
Concord is not the only game that has turned out to be a flop with Sony’s service focus. Just think of the multiplayer spinoff to The Last of Us, which was buried in December 2023. Nevertheless, the PlayStation operators want to continue on the path they have chosen. With Helldivers 2, they were at least able to score one (surprise) hit.
Further hopes now lie on Havens Studio’s multiplayer game Fairgame$, which was first unveiled in summer 2023. You can watch the trailer here:
Fraudsters sense their chance
Why is Concord still being sold? Although the end of Concord is just around the corner, there are currently numerous “offers” on platforms like eBay that want horrendous sums for the physical PS5 version of the game.
New and in its original packaging for 150 euros (via eBay)? Or two versions for just under 220 euros (via eBay)? A bargain from Great Britain for more than 1,200 euros (including shipping, via eBay)? There is even an offer for 25,000 US dollars on pcgamer.com. At launch, you could still get the shooter for just under 40 euros (which was already too much for many).
Admittedly, nobody will (hopefully) be stupid enough to buy Concord for 25,000 or even just 1,000+ euros. However, there are more than enough offers between 100 and 250 euros with bids or dozens of observers. Some dealers even state that they have already sold comparable offers.
Scalpers are banking on the potential rarity factor. As Concord disappears from the market, the number of physical versions in their original packaging could dwindle, which in turn increases the value for collectors – or so buyers may hope.
In such cases, you can only hope that you don’t get ripped off and end up paying the scalpers, as in this case: Scalpers are desperately trying to sell PS5 consoles – and are left with them because nobody wants to buy them anymore
