Affordable Rent Act

The Affordable Rent Act came into effect on 1 July. The regulated rent, as we know it from social housing, is extended to rental properties in the middle segment with this law. According to the so-called Housing Valuation System (WWS), homes with up to and including 186 points may cost a maximum of €1,157.95 per month.

According to the government, the new law would reduce the rent of over 300,000 homes by an average of 190 euros per month. Former housing minister Hugo de Jonge called it “a huge milestone” at the time. “The new law protects tenants and that is desperately needed.”
