Tahar Rahim unrecognizable discover his physical transformation for the film

Tahar Rahim stars as Charles Aznavour in a new biopic directed by Grand Corps Malade and Mehdi Idir. And the actor is almost unrecognizable in the first trailer shared on September 3.

Six years after his death, Charles Aznavour becomes a movie character. The journey of the Franco-Armenian singer is the subject of a film, soberly entitled Mr. Aznavour. Directed by Grand Corps Malade and Mehdi Idir (Patients, School life), This biopic looks back at the beginnings of this son of refugees with a veiled voice, who became one of the icons of French song through hard work and perseverance.

To embody the leading role, it is Tahar Rahim who was chosen. If his acting talents are incontestable (two Césars obtained for A prophetnotable performances in The Serpent And Found guilty), his physical resemblance to Charles Aznavour did not seem obvious on paper. The actor also reveals in an exclusive interview with Parisian to have been “filled with doubts” because of this lack of resemblance. But the trailer unveiled this Tuesday, September 3, reveals for the first time the actor made up as the interpreter of Bohemiaand the result is surprising.

In addition to the physical resemblance that came through prosthetics and makeup, Tahar Rahim had to take singing lessons (eight hours a week for six months, he revealed to our colleagues). Result: the actor is almost unrecognizable in these first images, where he plays opposite Victor Meutelet (as Johnny Hallyday), Tigran Mekhitarian (as Missak Manouchian), Bastien Bouillon (Pierre Roche) or Camille Moutawakil (Aïda Aznavour) and Marie-Julie Baup (Edith Piaf). Mr. Aznavour will be released in theaters on October 23, 2024.

Synopsis – Son of refugees, small, poor, with a veiled voice, it was said of him that he had nothing to succeed. Through hard work, perseverance and an extraordinary will, Charles Aznavour has become a monument of song, and a symbol of French culture.
