SMHI’s rare message ahead of the week: “Extremely unusual”

In the coming days, unusually high September temperatures are expected in some parts of the country. And now SMHI is issuing a notice in which they write that the heat can be a problem for especially risk groups.
– As far as I know, SMHI has never before issued either a message or a warning about high temperatures during the month of September, says TV4’s meteorologist Ulrika Elvgren.

Large parts of the country will experience unusually high temperatures for the season this week. In parts of westernmost Götaland, from southern Lake Vänern down to western Skåne, daytime temperatures are expected to reach up to 30 degrees in the coming days – which means that SMHI is now issuing a message to the public, where they write that the heat can mean increased strain on the body – especially for risk groups.

– Elderly and sick people are most at risk in heat. For a message about high temperatures to be issued, the maximum daily temperature must be between 26 and 30 degrees for three consecutive days, says TV4’s meteorologist Ulrika Elvgren.

Then advance information is also sent to those responsible in care and social care via the county administrations and municipalities, in order to increase preparedness.

– As far as I know, SMHI has never before issued either a message or a warning about high temperatures during the month of September, it is most common in connection with heat waves during the summer months, says Ulrika Elvgren.

Cooler ahead of the weekend

SMHI.’s announcement applies to western Skåne county, Halland county and parts of Västra Götaland county from 12 noon tomorrow Wednesday until 7 pm Friday.

It is a high pressure just east of the country that brings the sunny and for the season very warm weather. On Friday it will be slightly cooler, but the temperature can reach up to 25-27 degrees in some places. Also this weekend and possibly Monday, the temperature can reach up to 25 degrees, writes SMHI.

So far, however, no warning has been issued.
– Notification of high temperatures can be upgraded to a warning for high temperatures that can be issued at yellow and orange level, says Ulrika Elvgren.
