“Then you shouldn’t do sports”

Big change in the WC.
Then Ebba Andersson rejoices.
– Otherwise, you shouldn’t do elite sports, she says.

Expectations are really sky high for Ebba Andersson ahead of the coming season. She became the great World Cup queen with four medals in 2023, and she started last season brilliantly as she dominated before the Christmas break.

Ebba’s words about the change

But then Andersson was affected by Covid, which ultimately forced her to withdraw from the Tour de Ski. Ebba Andersson then had difficulty finding her form again during the spring, but her temporary lack of form and physical problems still suited her well, as there was no championship during the whole winter. In February next year, however, the World Cup is again waiting, this time in Trondheim, Norway, and then a big change awaits.

Ebba Andersson won WC gold in 30 kilometers during the last world championship, but she will not get the chance to defend that now. Instead, the ladies, just as the men have long done, will compete in a five-mile race. And Ebba Andersson likes that.

– It is quite clear that it is a challenge. And I like challenges. If you don’t do that, you shouldn’t do elite sports. Because challenges are something we are constantly faced with, she tells langd.se.

Success during the summer

Ebba Andersson has already made changes to her training ahead of the season to be able to perform in such a long distance.

– We have put in a few more high quality sessions to be prepared and be well equipped for a five miler. I have run five miles before, but only once a year and not in such an important context as at the WC. So this will be something completely new, says Andersson.

Ebba Andersson also seems to be in great shape for the upcoming season. During Toppidrettsveka on roller skis in August, the Swede was first eighth in the mass start, but in the subsequent pursuit start she slaughtered all her opponents and finally won by a clear 15 seconds.

– It has been good to refresh my memory and get a reminder of what awaits when it’s time for the WC. There are courses with tough uphill runs and also downhill runs. So it’s important to toughen up for the downhill runs, says Andersson.
