In ARK: Survival Ascended, you’ll soon be able to swing through a new map like Spider-Man by wearing a cute spider on your forearm.
On September 4th, ARK: Survival Ascended (ASA) will get the DLC map Aberration. The map appeared in the original ARK: Survival Evolved back in 2017 and brought a number of new features to the game, including new creatures and devices. The big difference in Aberration, however, is that the map takes place entirely beneath the earth’s surface and you can go deeper and deeper underground.
Life underground also means that you cannot use the variety of different flying creatures on the map, such as an Argentavis or a Wyvern. Instead, there are creatures like the Rock Drake, which are particularly good at climbing and gliding. Aberration also introduced new shoulder creatures that sit on your shoulder and serve as a light source, for example.
With the release of Aberration in ARK: Survival Ascended, the game gets another shoulder pet that makes it easier for you to move around underground.
There’s a spider sitting on your forearm
What kind of spider is this? With the ASA release, owners of the “Bob’s Tall Tales” bundle can meet Cosmo. This is a cute little spider with big eyes that can be used as a shoulder pet.
Not much is known about Cosmo yet. However, a picture shared by the developers shows that the spider helps you move around underground. It sits on your forearm, clinging to it with its eight hairy legs, looking at you with its huge, round eyes and shooting spider webs.
The picture also shows that you can use these threads to swing through the underground like Spider-Man and hopefully escape the clutches of a Reaper.
In addition to the spider Cosmo and the Aberration map, ARK: Survival Ascended gets a new dino, the Yi Ling. This is a type of raptor that is very agile and can climb walls.
The developers continue to work on new or improved old content for the survival game. They are supported by a strong mod community that also provides the game with new maps, creatures, structures and more.
One of these modders is Nekatus. MeinMMO’s community manager Marylin Marx spoke to the German modder at gamescom 2024. Read the interview here: A German mods the survival game ARK for up to 14 hours a day and earns money from it – Nekatus in an interview
