In spring 2025, a new JRPG with a dark story about alchemists will be released on Steam

In a dangerous land, a young alchemist searches for answers: about her family, the nature of alchemy and a long-lost empire. From spring 2025, you can accompany her on her journey on Steam and PS5.

What game is it? “Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories and the Dreamed Land” is the latest part of the well-known role-playing game series “Atelier”, but tells an independent story. The game is being developed by Koei Tecmo.

“Atelier Yumia” is scheduled to be released on March 21, 2025 on Steam as well as for the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS4/PS5 and the Nintendo Switch.

What does the trailer reveal about the story? The art of alchemy has a bad reputation in this world. Those who practice it do so in secret: such as Yumia’s mother, who died in an accident three years before the main story begins.

After her mother’s death, Yumia learned about her family history and began searching for answers: Why did alchemy become taboo? Is alchemy really as evil and destructive as everyone thinks?

In search of answers, Yumia travels to the former empire of Aladiss. Alchemy once helped it to greatness, but a mysterious catastrophe led to its downfall. Today, the land is only populated by hostile monsters, which Yumia and her companions must face.

An adventure for long-time fans and newcomers

How is the trailer recorded? Unlike many of the previous games, the characters are no longer teenagers and the story also seems darker at first glance. Many fans of the series are happy about this change of direction, as can be seen from the YouTube comments under another trailer for the game.

    • In this 10-minute video, the developers have already shown some new features. These include the revised synthesis, i.e. crafting in the game, and the new construction mode.

    Since Yumia’s story stands alone, you don’t have to have played any of the previous parts. So, as another YouTube comment shows, you can enter the world of Atelier even if you’re a complete newbie. anmoldembla4743 writes: “This will be my first Atelier game, I’m already looking forward to it.”

    Before “Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories and the Dreamed Land” is released, there is another JRPG that you should prepare yourself for. The makers of Persona 3 to 5 are currently working on “Metaphor: ReFantazio”, which is scheduled to be released in October 2024.
