The zombie survival shooter Once Human is exciting many players on Steam. Now the developers are commenting on how the journey for their game will continue.
Where was the statement made? At gamescom 2024, the website VG247.com conducted an interview with the Head of Operations, Derek Qui, from the developer studio “Starry Studio”. The developer talked about the success of the game and what the next steps will look like.
The developers already know that their game should be able to run for decades, even on new platforms.
Here you can find out whether it is still worth starting with Once Human when the reset comes soon:
Once Human soon on more platforms
What is the developers’ plan? While Derek Qui did not reveal an exact timetable for the further development of Once Human, he did reveal some details in the interview. In addition to a lot of planned new content, the survival game will also be available on more platforms.
To ensure that more players can play Once Human, the developers are bringing the game to mobile devices and consoles. The game saves will be shared between all platforms. This means you can continue building your base during your lunch break, for example.
What content do players expect? In the interview, the developer talks about how new content for open-world games is always difficult. New content is quickly devoured by players and then there are always complaints that there is nothing to do.
The developers are aware of this problem and are creating new game content and completely new systems to make the world full of content. “So we’re trying to address this with new content and new gameplay features that we can implement in the open world,” says Derek Qui in an interview with VG247.com.
A new mode is set to be added to the game soon. The developers of Once Human like things to be a little more difficult and only after many discussions have they decided to make their game a little easier. A hardcore mode has already been confirmed and will complement the game.
A game for decades
What is the long-term goal? The developers of Once Human have a big vision. “The long-term goal is that our game can be operated for decades,” Derek Qui reveals in an interview. The game should always remain free for everyone and do not have a pay2win option.
The developers themselves say that they were not able to generate much revenue with the free2play model at the beginning, but the game is now doing really well thanks to the large number of players. Instead of pay2win, however, Once Human also offers loot boxes, which players don’t like at all: “Please stop” – survival hit Once Human does exactly what players were afraid of at release
