In the latest update of its browser, Google added two new functions using artificial intelligence, one for image search, the other to use Gemini, its AI system.
As the race to dominate the generative artificial intelligence (AI) market intensifies, Google is continuing its efforts to integrate AI into its various services. In a blog post published in early August, the Mountain View giant, which notably added Gemini to several tools such as Gmail, Google Docs and Calendar, had also announced that it would integrate its chatbot and other functions into Chrome. And it seems that the update has been made. Since Monday, September 2, it is possible to use two new features that have been implemented in versions 127 and 128 of the most widely used browser in the world. It is now possible to ask Gemini a question directly from the search bar, but also to perform a reverse image search using Lens.
Google Chrome: How to use Gemini and Lens?
Since the last update, Chrome allows its users to search on what they see on the screen, whether it is on an image, such as a photo of a celebrity that we would not be able to recognize, a web page, a slide during a live broadcast or in a video. A function that had been integrated on Google Assistant, Google Photos, but not yet on the browser. To do this, the manipulation is very simple. Simply open the Chrome menu, available by clicking on the three dots placed vertically at the top right of the browser, then click on Search with Google Lens. You must then select the content to search by clicking and dragging the mouse to delimit an area. Once the manipulation is done, the visual matches and the results will be displayed in the side panel. Users can then refine their results by typing indications – such as color, a brand, or many other details – in the search field of the side panel.
The second new feature that has been implemented in the latest version of Chrome is the integration of Gemini. “With this new shortcut in Chrome, quickly get help from Gemini to accomplish creative and complex tasks, like planning a trip or learning more about a new topic.”says Google in a blog post. To take advantage of this addition, simply type “@” in the URL address bar and select Chat with Gemini. Once the query has been written and saved, users will be redirected to gemini.google.com to access a more complete and in-depth answer than a simple browser search.
