Violence in Afghanistan has been on the decline since the extremist Islamic Taliban movement came to power in the country in 2021. At the same time, the long-term war between foreign forces and Islamist rebels ended.
However, the ISIS sub-organization Isis-K still has influence in the region, and has regularly targeted violent attacks against civilians, foreigners and Taliban authorities in the region.
