Aurélie Aubert: accident, track record… Who is the boccia para athlete?

Aurelie Aubert accident track record Who is the boccia para

Frenchwoman Aurélie Aubert is the pleasant surprise of these Paralympic Games.

Aurélie Robert is a French para athlete, a boccia specialist. The Frenchwoman has had cerebral palsy since birth and has therefore always lived in a wheelchair. “I have little autonomy and I always need a third person for the acts of daily life. I also need to have an assistant for my sporting activity” she explains to Bleus handisport. By winning a medal in these Paralympic Games, the Frenchwoman has achieved a real feat. Her record is not yet very impressive internationally. “I finished 8e individually and 4e team at the 2023 European Championships in Rotterdam (Netherlands). And at the World Cup stage in Montreal (Canada), in April 2024, I took the 4e individual place. During the 2002 World Cup stage in Rio (Brazil), I also finished 4the individually and 6e by team” she explains for Ouest France.

I am incredibly happy to get this first medal for France, especially at home.she rejoiced. I’m going to play for gold but the colour of the medal doesn’t matter much anymore. Before the match, I didn’t know that winning the semi-final would be so historic. Now I know and I still can’t get over how big this medal is. I’m happy to represent my country, my teammates, my family. I hope that from now on there will be more media coverage and more recognition for boccia.”
