More and more older people are getting married: “Can only enjoy together”

The number of pensioners who get married has increased by 360 percent since the turn of the millennium.
The 67-year-old couple Thomas and Anneli met on a dating program and have now taken the plunge and said yes to each other “for real”.
– It’s fun to know that love doesn’t end, says Thomas in Efter fem.

It is Thomas Hynes Holm and Anneli Holm Hynes who have now married in their old age, and who can now enjoy each other when their adult children can take care of themselves.

Something they think is a big advantage of finding love again after 60.

– You “commit” and feel that it is us and that we want to live the rest of our lives together. We should just enjoy life together, take care of each other, just have fun and do new things. We don’t know if it will be two years or 30 years… says Anneli before her husband Thomas fills in:

– We have to take this chance now. Why wait?

“This generation is happier”

Ingmar Skoog is a senior researcher at the University of Gothenburg, and says that he usually says that 70 is both a bit like the new 20 and the new 50.

He stresses that the generation reaching retirement age is now significantly more vital than the generation that became so in the 1970s, with which there are surveys to compare.

– This generation has more sex and is happier in their relationships and that means you meet more new people and can see a future. You have a greater desire to do things in life.

Going to move in together

Thomas Hynes Holm and Anneli Holm Hynes met in the SVT program Hotell Romantik and have lived separately for about two years, but in a couple of months they will move in together when Thomas changes Stockholm to Gothenburg.

They already have a lot of fun planned there.

– We have bought new nice electric bikes so now we will do Gothenburg, Helsingborg, Copenhagen and Oslo. We have to do things, then I think you keep the love alive. You must not get stuck in boredom, concludes Anneli.
