A large-scale vaccination against polio has started in Gaza, the hospitals in the war-torn area confirm.
The hope of the UN and Gaza’s health authorities is to succeed in stopping an outbreak of the virus, which a ten-month-old infant was diagnosed with in August, and which was previously found in sewage.
Vaccination is expected to continue in central Gaza until Wednesday and then begin in the northern and southern parts of the area.
The campaign started with a small number of vaccinations on Saturday. The goal is for around 640,000 children to be vaccinated against polio.
– There are many drones flying over central Gaza and we hope that the vaccination campaign for children will go smoothly, says Yasser Shaabane, director of al-Awda hospital.
On Thursday, Israel and Hamas agreed to a three-day humanitarian pause in Gaza starting on September 1 to allow for polio vaccinations.
Sales of lice remedies have increased by around 23 percent over the past four weeks, according to Apotek Hjärtat reports P4 Kronoberg.
The main reason is believed to be the start of preschool and school, when many children meet again after the summer, which can lead to increased spread.

The Israeli organization Forum for Hostages and Missing Families writes on X that they will hold a demonstration in Tel Aviv during the day, and goes on a strong attack against Netanyahu’s government.
“The families of the kidnapped are encouraging the public to come to a huge demonstration, a shutdown of the state and an agreement to get the hostages released now,” the statement reads.
Furthermore, it is written that the demonstration will begin at 19.00 and will be held in Tel Aviv.
Several other demonstrations will also be held during the day, the organization states.
At 9 a.m. on Sunday morning, the police start the search operation again for the 60-year-old Norwegian man who is missing in Älvdalen.

A fishing boat caught fire outside Aneby during the morning.

During the night of Sunday, Russia shot down 158 Ukrainian drones over 15 Russian regions, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.

– There are two men who get out of a car. One man beats this man down in a parking lot while the other stands and watches, says Fredrik Svedemyr, press spokesperson for the police in the West region.
Two perpetrators then fled in a car together with a female driver and drove in the direction of the arena in Skövde.
The man had to be taken to hospital and was awake and able to speak and a report of assault has been made.
