Only 17 years old Matias Siltanen has risen to a significant role in soccer’s Veikkausliiga.
The KuPS graduate made his debut in the men’s football premier league this season. The young midfield quarterback has gotten a lot of playing time and has shown his abilities in the league’s top team.
Siltanen is also part of the Finnish U19 boys’ national team, which will face Romania twice in Eerikkilä at the beginning of September.

KuPS has invested in junior coaching
Siltanen praises his club’s junior coaching. For example, in the last season, new coaches and staff joined KuPS. It can help raise the club’s players to the main league in the future as well.
In his own junior coaching, however, Siltanen also emphasizes his father Marko Siltanen great importance. Father has coached Siltas for many years before and supported with his presence.
– However, I have to remember that all the coaches have been important, and I have received something from each of them. For example, the former talent coach of KuPS Juha-Pekka Niskanen has always pushed me forward, says Siltanen.
Future dreams abroad
Siltanen mentions football players as role models Lionel Messi’s and Rodrin.
– Messi has always been number one for me. Recently, I have followed more players from my own place, such as Rodri.
Siltanen dreams of going abroad in the footsteps of his role models.
– It’s no secret that I want to play abroad at some point, and the higher the level, the better. The next step would be to a slightly harder series. However, there is no need to rush, says Siltanen.
Siltanen’s agent Tomi Linkojoki says that it is not everyday to see a 17-year-old football player in a big role in the Veikkausliiga’s top team.
According to Linkojoki, there are parties interested in Siltase from all over Europe. Despite the promising future prospects, the agent hopes that Siltanen will be allowed to develop in peace.
– I have to remember that this is a 17-year-old super talent. The most important thing is to find the best option in terms of sports, where you can develop as a football player.
