USA: 15 IS terrorists killed in raid in Iraq

In a post on X, the command center, Centcom, writes that the raid was carried out early on the night of Thursday.

15 people belonging to the Islamic State terrorist movement were killed. In connection with the raid, the military also allegedly found several weapons, grenades and explosive suicide belts, writes Centcom on X.

No civilians appear to have been injured, according to Centcom.

Targeted action against leaders

The purpose of the operation was to target IS leaders in order to disrupt the group in the planning and execution of attacks against civilians in Iraq, but also American citizens and US allies in the area.

“IS is a continuing threat to the region, our allies and our homeland. US Centcom together with Iraq will continue to aggressively hunt down these terrorists,” writes Centcom in the post.

Iraq’s military states that important IS leaders are among the dead, AP writes.

American soldiers injured

In connection with the raid, six soldiers are said to have been injured, write NBC. None of the injuries are considered life-threatening, but several are said to have received potential concussions and at least one is said to have received injuries on the outside of the body.
