Sven-Göran Eriksson had a dream in Torsby.
On the same day he died, it came true.
– It was “Svenni’s” great wish, says Torsby IF’s alltialo Michael Norman to NWT.
Sven-Göran Eriksson told earlier this year that he had suffered from an incurable and fatal cancer, and on Monday the coaching legend fell asleep. He was 76 years old, and will forever be remembered as Sweden’s greatest football coach of all time.
The dream come true
Sven-Göran Eriksson coached big clubs such as Benfica, Roma and Lazio, but also national teams where England stands out in the crowd. Sven-Göran Eriksson had a burning passion for football even when his coaching career ended, and he helped as much as he could in the local teams in Torsby and Karlstad. And Svennis had one last wish for his team in Torsby, where he was born.
On Saturday, when Torsby meets Råtorp, André Jernberg makes his debut. And that had meant a lot to Sven-Göran Eriksson.
– Getting André here was “Svenni’s” great wish. We talked about that as recently as three, four weeks ago, says Michael “Skjorta” Norman, who is all for Torsby IF, for NWT.
“Will try to honor him”
Michael Norman says that Svennis tried to sign the player, who most recently comes from FBK Karlstrom plays in division one, even before the pandemic.
– “Svennis” was very keen that things would go well for us and this was truly his dream signing. Funnily enough, the transition was completed the same day he passed away, says Norman.
For André Jernberg, the move to Torsby will now be extra special, and now he will try to ensure that Svenni’s second big wish for his Torsby comes true – namely that the team moves up to division 3.
– In a sense, it feels a bit sad that he never got to see me play. But I will try to honor him as best I can, says Jernberg.
Torsby is second in the table ahead of this weekend’s match, four points behind league leader KB Karlskoga.
