The Rings of Power: when are the next episodes released on Prime Video?

The Rings of Power when are the next episodes released

Season 2 of the “Lord of the Rings” spinoff series returned for just three episodes on August 29. But when can you watch the rest?

After two years of absence, The Rings of Power is back for its second season. The spin-off series of the Lord of the Ringswhich tells the origins of Sauron and the rings forged before the story of Tolkien as we know it, unsurprisingly reigns over Prime Video audiences by being the most-watched series of the moment across the world on average, and particularly in France. Even before its return, the first season could be found at the top of the most-watched series of the moment on Amazon, probably so that fans could do a recap before launching the new episodes.

This Thursday, August 29, three episodes of season 2 of Rings of Power have been put online for subscribers. But rest assured, this is obviously not the end of the season, since Prime Video often favors weekly online releases: it is possible to find a new episode every Thursday, before the finale, scheduled for October 3, 2024.

Season 1 Recap

During season 1 of Rings of Powerat the house of the elvesElrond has made a deal with his old dwarven friend Prince Durin to allow Middle-earth to stock up on mithril, a mineral with mysterious qualities. The smith Celebrimbor can then use it to forge rings of power, with the aim of defending himself and preventing the decline of the elves. Only three rings have been created by the end of Season 1.

For his part, Galadriel allows Halbrand, a shipwreck survivor who has become his traveling companion, to be healed in the elven realm. But when he takes an interest in Celebrimbor’s work, Galadriel begins to have doubts about her friend. She then discovers that Halbrand is not an ally, but an enemy: it is Saurondisguised as a human. She then understands that she has allowed him, without knowing it, to take power. Sauron, from now on, goes to Mordor.

On the side of the kingdom of DwarvesKing Durin strips his son, Prince Durin, of his right to inherit the throne upon learning that he has been negotiating with the elves behind his back. He does, however, retain the trust of his wife, Disa, who still hopes to rule the mountain kingdom at his side.

One of the major events of season 1 of Rings of Power was the invasion of the Southlands by the Orcas. Led by Adar, they also triggered the eruption of a volcano that completely devastated the Southern Lands, transforming it into a place where they could thrive due to its lack of sunlight, a place that is now known as Mordor. The survivors of the Southern Lands (Bronwyn, her son Theo and Arondir) are now refugees. The inhabitants of Numenorthey failed to save the Southlanders. Elendil believes his son, Isildur, died in the volcanic eruption that gave birth to Mordor. The Queen Regent, Miriel, has been blinded and weakened by her political rival, Pharazon.

There is another people that we followed during the first season of Rings of Power, The Pievelus, who saved an amnesiac man with mysterious powers known as the Stranger. While Sadoc did not survive the confrontation with three black magic practitioners, Nori decides to leave his community and head towards the eastern lands of Rhûn with the Stranger, to discover his true identity. We then discover that the latter is an Itsar, a sorcerer.

The first three episodes of the second season of the series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was released on Thursday, August 29, 2024. The producers of the series have indeed taken the time to offer a sequel that lives up to the first season, released two years ago. An episode is broadcast every week on Thursdays, until the finale scheduled for October 3.

serial sheet

The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power series is set in the Second Age of Middle-earth, a time when the Rings of Power were forged, before the events of The Lord of the Rings books and films. The story takes place in several locations, including the Elven kingdoms of Lindon and Eregion, Khazad-dûm the Realm of the Dwarves, the Southlands, and the legendary island of Númenor.

Since the beginning of the broadcast of the series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, theories from viewers have been rife about the identity of “The Stranger” played by Daniel Weyman. Episode 8 confirms that the character is none other than an Istar, a magician, which could potentially make him the interpreter of Gandalf millennia before the Lord of the Rings trilogy. However, fans are wondering about the relevance of this choice and the writers themselves have not wanted to confirm this theory. The identity of The Stranger and the potential presence of Gandalf in The Rings of Power is therefore more than ever in question for the rest of the series! Perhaps we will learn more with the broadcast of season 2?

Through a video published on social networks, Amazon Prime Video has lifted the veil on the creative team working on the series adapting the universe of the Lord of the Rings. Director Juan Antonio Bayona (Jurassic World 2) has filmed the first two episodes. He has also chosen to work with the same executive producer as for his previous films, Belén Atienza. Bruce Richmond, producer of Game of Thrones, Westworld And The Leftovers will also be an executive producer of the series, as will Gene Kelly, (Boardwalk Empire, Westworld ) as well as Lyndsey Weber (Star Trek Unlimited, 10 Cloverfield Lane).

Tasked with adapting the original material by JRR Tolkien, JD Payne and Patrick McKay will be surrounded by a team of experienced screenwriters. Among them are authors who have worked on Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad, 13 Reasons Why, Game of Thrones, The Sopranos or even Stranger Things. Among the creative teams that will have the heavy task of setting up the universe of the Lord of the Rings, we find the costume designer Kate Hawley (Suicide Squad, Crimson Peak), Oscar-winning production designer Rick Heinrichs (Sleepy Hollow, Star Wars 8), Oscar-winning special effects supervisor Jason Smith (Avengers 1, Super 8, The Revenant). Finally, let us note the presence in the credits of John Howe who notably illustrated numerous editions of the Lord of the Rings books and worked as a concept artist on Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy.

The first season of The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power was filmed between New Zealand and the United Kingdom. It must be said that New Zealand had already been the setting for the filming of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. The series was therefore part of this tradition of using the south-east Pacific country as a backdrop. Season 2 began filming in the United Kingdom at the end of 2022 and should also have sequences filmed in New Zealand.
