According to a recent report by the UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Iran has enriched 164 kilograms of uranium. It is almost 23 kilos more than in May, when the situation was last checked.

The news agencies Reuters and AFP have seen the IAEA’s so far unpublished report.

Now, uranium enriched to 60 percent is only one technological step away from the uranium needed for nuclear weapons, which has a purity of 90 percent.

In 2015, Iran agreed with the international community on restrictions on its uranium enrichment program in order to get relief from economic sanctions. However, the agreement began to water down when the United States withdrew from it in 2018.
