Two items suspected of being dangerous were found outdoors in the Rosengård district of Malmö on Thursday evening.

A man is arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

One of the objects was defused by the National Bomb Squad just after midnight and a man was arrested.

– At the moment, the crime classification is attempted murder, but that may change, says Marie Keismar, officer on duty at police region South.

The police are very secretive about the arrestee, but the man must be over 18 years old.

The alarm about the first object came at 21:45 on Thursday and the police quickly issued a so-called VMA, an important message to the public, where residents in the area are asked to stay indoors and away from windows.

About half an hour later, another one was discovered in the area.

The police initially suspected that it was two hand grenades placed in the area.

– We have not determined that it is definitely hand grenades, so we can neither confirm nor deny that at this stage, says Marie Keismar.

The items were found in the middle of a residential area in Rosengård.

– It was found in a green area, but there are homes nearby, says police spokesperson Sara Andersson.

Shortly after 02:30, the police’s VMA was lifted after both items were rendered harmless and taken care of by NBS. The cordons in the area have been lifted and, according to the police, there is no danger to the public.
