The escalating war tensions between Israel and Hezbollah have hit the Lebanese economy. The country’s economy, which was already going through difficult times, has almost hit rock bottom with the increasing tensions in the region. The cash flow crisis in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, has grown due to the impact of Israeli attacks. In the country where the financial collapse began in 2019, people were unable to withdraw their money from the banks. After the protests, the street where the banks are located turned into a war zone.
PEOPLE ATTACKED BANKS IN BEIRUT
In the capital Beirut, people attacked banks because they could not get their money. Windows and frames were broken. The Lebanese threw stones, sticks, banners on the ground and whatever they could find at the windows of the banks.
“WE WILL DESTROY THOSE WHO INVALIDATE OUR MONEY”
According to the news on CNN Türkk; a Lebanese shouted, “Today we are here to give a message to the bank owners. We will destroy those who invalidate our money. This is our response to 5 years of theft. We were expecting them to give us our money back but we are not getting anything. We are only getting 150 or 300 dollars. I have nothing to lose. They stole my life’s work. I want to get my rights even if it costs blood and even if it costs their souls, the souls of the bank owners who plundered us.”
“We will stay on the streets until our last breath, whether it’s hot or cold. We gave our money to any minister, MP or president. We deposited our money in banks and we demand that they give us our money back, whether they want it or not,” said a female Lebanese.
