Investigator Elisabeth Nilsson. Photo: Jonas Ekströmer/TT

The right of grazing must be abolished. This is what government investigator Elisabeth Nilsson suggests at a press meeting with Rural Affairs Minister Peter Kullgren.

The right to pasture means that all cattle over six months, except for bulls, must be given the opportunity to graze during the summer.

The investigation’s proposal means that free-ranging cows, i.e. cows that can move freely within a certain area (e.g. a barn), should be able to be exempted from the grazing requirement.

    – The competitiveness in milk production is not good enough, says Elisabeth Nilsson.

The investigation is part of the government’s work to strengthen the competitiveness of Swedish agriculture and increase food production.
