There are new GerüI wonder what new game the people Bungie (Destiny 2) sent to Sony in July 2024 are working on. They’re talking about a new shooter in a “science fantasy” universe. Apparently Bungie has been working on it for a while.
What do we know about Bunige’s work? We know that Bungie is officially only working on 2 game series:
All other projects that were being worked on were officially discontinued on July 31, 2024. But there is one exception.
Because part of Bungie, 75 employees, were outsourced and transferred to a new studio under Sony. They are apparently continuing to work on a new game that they previously worked on for Bungie. It is now being run by a new studio under Sony, whose name we do not know. There are now rumors about this game.
Action game in a science-fantasy universe
What is this mysterious 3rd game? It is said to be a new brand that Sony is developing in collaboration with former employees Bungie. It is said to be an “action game in a brand new science-fantasy universe”. And Bungie has been working on it for a long time.
The father of the zombies from COD is to lead the studio
Who is your boss? The new head of this Sony studio is said to be Jason Blundell, who is said to have moved there according to the site “Insider Gaming”, which refers to a Twitch from “Glitching Queen”.
This is not confirmed – but there are other, earlier statements that support this (via x).
Jason Blundell has been working in the gaming industry since 2006 and played an important role as creative director at Call of Duty developer Treyarch. Here he was particularly influential in shaping the campaign and zombie mode of the military shooter.
He is known for multi-layered narratives and morally grey characters.
After Blundell left Treyarch in 2020, his career has not been very glamorous: He founded his own studio, Deviation Games, but left the studio in September 2022 – and the studio then closed in March 2024.
It is not known how long Blundell has been working at the new studio for Sony.
What kind of game could this be? If it’s not set in the Destiny universe or Marathon, the last name floating around would be “Matter.” But that’s pure speculation.
But at least we now have a new perspective on the mysterious post by Pete Parsons from July 31st. He said at the time: The 75 employees who went to Sony would otherwise have had to be laid off as well. Now we have an idea of what exactly they are doing at Sony: Destiny 2: Bungie loses 450 employees, including the most experienced – Stops all projects except 2
