A record number of companies on Råd og Rön’s blacklist – Tesla, Ryanair and Turkish Airlines are at the top

Companies that do not comply with the General Complaints Board’s decision end up in the newspaper Råd & Rön’s “Black List”. In the latest update, 235 companies have been added to the list, which is more than ever before.

– It also reflects the flood of reports that have come in to the Swedish Consumer Agency, says Daniel Kjellberg, editor-in-chief at Råd och Rön.

Last year, over 32,000 cases were received by the Swedish Consumer Agency, which is an increase of roughly 6,300 cases compared to the year before.

– This is due to several reasons. There are more problems with e-commerce, more fraud, and the economic situation affects both individuals and companies.

Tesla stands out

The vast majority of cases are in the engine department. There are 71 companies and 95 cases where customers have not been compensated by the company.

– It is the type of purchase that consumers have the most problems with. Most of the time, it’s about buying a used car with faults that you shouldn’t have to reckon with.

If a company does not follow ARN’s recommendation, the company ends up on the blacklist for two years. Electric car giant Tesla has hit the list for the second time after refusing to fix a broken door on a customer’s car.

– In general, it is small and local actors with a poor grasp of laws and regulations that end up on the list. It is very unusual for large companies to opt out of this context, because they are now telling future customers that they cannot be trusted to act according to good business practice.

“Tough to be a consumer in Sweden”

The second most cases are in the travel department, where there are 76 cases distributed among 27 airlines. These include major airlines such as Turkish Airlines, Ryanair and Wizz Air.

– As a rule, it is about delays where you are entitled to compensation but have not received it. None of the companies are new and if you look at the list, they are often at the top.

The black list is published twice a year and in total there are currently around 700 companies on it.

– In summary, it can be said that it is tough to be a consumer in Sweden. The trend seems to be that notifications are increasing and the risk I see is that it will only continue upwards, says Daniel Kjellberg.
