French prosecutors released the CEO of the Telegram messaging service Pavel Durovin from police custody on Wednesday.
Durov was interrogated for four days on criminal suspicions related to Telegram.
Next, Durov will be brought to justice.
– The investigating prosecutor has released Pavel Durov from police custody and will bring him to court to hear a possible charge, the Paris prosecutor’s office informs.
According to the criminal suspicions of the French authorities, Durov’s Telegram service has shared child pornography, sold drugs, and carried out various frauds.
In addition, Telegram has allegedly refused requests for information when French authorities have attempted to investigate possible criminal activity on the channel.
Politico reported today that also Pavel’s brother Nikolai Durov wanted by the French police.
According to an official document seen by Politico, the French police have already been investigating Telegram months before the time it was made public. According to the official document, one of the cases triggering the investigation is precisely related to the sexual abuse of children.
According to the document, Telegram did not help French authorities identify a person suspected of blackmailing children with pornographic material and possibly raping a child.
