Istat, industrial turnover down in June due to weakness in domestic market

Istat families propensity to save is growing

(Telestock) – Industry turnover falls in June. According to the latest Istat report, the industrial turnover, net of seasonal factors, recorded a small increase of 0.1% in value and a decrease of 0.7% in volume. They register downturns on the domestic market (-1.0% in value and -1.6% in volume) and increases on the foreign market (+2.2% in value and +1.0% in volume).

In the services sector a is detected negative cyclical variation both in value (-0.7%) and in volume (-1%), widespread in both the wholesale trade, trade and repair of motor vehicles sector and in that of other services. For industry, the greater liveliness of foreign sales offsets the negative trend observed for the domestic component.

In general terms and net of calendar effects, it is recorded in June a decline in both sectors both in value and volume, more marked for the industrial sector.

As for the major industry groupingsin June there was a cyclical increase for the only intermediate goods (+1.7%) while a slight increase is observed decline in capital goods (-0.4%) and a more marked decrease for energy (-5.8%). Consumer goods show no change on a quarterly basis.

In the second quarter of 2024in cyclical terms, the industrial turnover, net of seasonal factors, records a decrease of the same intensity (-1.1%) both in value and in volume. In the same period, the turnover of services grows in value (+0.3%) and is unchanged in volume.

On a trend basisin June 2024, the industry turnovercorrected for calendar effects, records a flexion both in value (-3.7%) and in volume (-3.3%)a synthesis of decreases of 6% on the domestic market (-5.6% in volume) and increases of 0.6% on the foreign market (+0.8% in volume). The calendar working days were 20 against 21 in June 2023.

As regards the main industrial groupings, there are trend increases only for energy (+0.4%)while the numbers are decreasing consumer goods (-1.3%)and to a more marked extent, the intermediate goods (-3.4%) and capital goods (-7.3%).
