The first time the SM week was arranged in Umeå was in the winter of 2014.
Then the city arranged the SM week in the summer of 2023, and then became only the third city to arrange the SM week in both summer and winter.
“Looking forward to a lovely winter week”
It is now clear that the SM week will return to Umeå in the winter of 2026.
– We are looking forward to a wonderful winter week when it returns to Umeå in 2026. The last time it happened, in 2014, Umeå made a fantastic effort to get the competitions going despite the lack of snow, we hope for better luck with the weather this time, says SVT’s sports director Max Bursell.
Umeå also has an option to arrange the SC week in the winter of 2029. This applies under the condition that the current agreement with the SC week with SVT and the Swedish Skiing Association, which expires in 2028, is extended.
– Umeå is a good and experienced event city that has the capacity to organize a SM week. The WC week summer 2023 in Umeå had many positive effects and we look forward to developing the event and creating new lasting values together, says Maria Hallberg, event manager for the WC week at the Swedish Sports Confederation.
