Now “Svenni’s” beautiful gesture during the time in England that few know about is also revealed.

At the beginning of the year announced Sven-Göran Eriksson to everyone with emotional words that he had suffered from an incurable cancer. The Swedish coaching icon had been told he had less than a year to live.

Eriksson’s death

Since then, “Svennis” has been praised throughout the football world and traveled around to all his former clubs and national teams to say goodbye. On Monday came the tragic news that sent the whole of Sweden into mourning.

Sven-Göran Eriksson fell asleep on Monday morning, surrounded by his family and he was 76 years old. Condolences and tributes have poured in on social media over the past 24 hours to honor a football coach who meant so much to so many.
“We are so incredibly sad that our former sports director Sven-Göran Eriksson has passed away. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this sad time,” wrote English club Notts County on social media.

Svenni’s beautiful gesture

Svennis took over as sporting director of Notts County, then in the English fourth division, on July 22, 2009. Then the huge debts incurred by the venerable club, one of the world’s oldest football teams, were revealed and the Swede found himself in the middle of a very precarious situation.

Then Sven-Göran showed his big heart by giving up his compensation of 2.5 million pounds, at the time around 28.5 million Swedish kronor, to help save the club’s existence. He was also appointed Honorary Chairman for life and is praised to the skies for his selfless and admirable gesture.
“The man who could have ruined us, but acted with such grace and dignity in one of the craziest periods of our time. He knew that the survival of our club was more important than money. Rest in peace, Sven,” writes a supporter after the Swede’s passing.

Svenni’s heartwarming decision not to accept a single kroner is now being praised by many supporters on social media, see below.
“A true gentleman. Rest in peace,” writes one user.
“I didn’t know he did this. What a person!”, writes another.
“He stayed until the end of the season, even though he could have left so easily,” writes a third.
