The hero shooter Concord continues to have problems with low player numbers on Steam. Now it has even reached double digits.
What is Concord? The hero shooter comes from Firewalk Studios and is published by PlayStation Publishing. It was released on August 23, 2024 for PS5 and Steam. On Steam, you can buy the game for €39.99, the Deluxe Edition costs €59.99.
The hype Sony had hoped for did not materialize around the release. Instead, the headlines were dominated by the weak player numbers. At the peak of the release, the numbers were only 660 simultaneous players – a number that Concord has not yet exceeded.
On the contrary, things are currently continuing to go down.
Concord’s player numbers drop to 97
What do the numbers say? You can follow the current status of Concord on SteamCharts. The 24-hour peak was 267 simultaneous players, the all-time peak is still at 660.
Today, Tuesday, August 27, 2024, it even reached double digits. At 12:00 p.m., SteamCharts recorded only 97 simultaneous active players, but in the following hours it rose to 154.
It is unclear how many PlayStation players are playing in Concord. There are currently no statistics on this.
Players report problems: In the game’s subreddit, players exchange information and sometimes report long queues because no one can find other players for the game (via Reddit). One user reports an 8-minute wait between matches – too much for him.
At the same time, at least a few PlayStation players have reported in the comments that they are having fewer problems with waiting times. This suggests that the numbers here are at least looking a little better. That’s why some also recommend activating crossplay.
In the comments, players are not necessarily expecting things to improve – even if some of them are keen on the gameplay. They are discussing what could save the game – such as switching to a F2P model to compete with free-to-play competition like Overwatch.
What are the problems? There are probably a number of things that come together here. First of all, there is the lack of hype surrounding the game. In the reviews on Steam, Concord gets 71 percent “mostly positive”, but only 418 reviews have been received so far.
The game has a mediocre rating of 65 percent on Metacritic, and only 2.2 points on the user score. MeinMMO editor Dariusz Müller also took a look at Concord and criticized various points.
Then there’s the price tag of 39.99 euros, which may be too much for a “mediocre” game in the hero shooter genre when there are so many strong and affordable alternatives. It remains to be seen whether Concord will recover on Steam or whether the PlayStation figures will ultimately pay off. We’ll keep you updated here.
