The information began to spread on Tuesday morning by several influential Telegram channels, which claim to have reliable sources within the Russian administration.

300 Ukrainian soldiers

According to the sources, around 300 Ukrainian soldiers are on their way to the border town of Shebekino, which lies between the Russian city of Belgorod and Ukrainian Kharkiv.

In addition to these, 200 soldiers are said to have attacked the border crossing at Nekhoteyevka.

But according to the Shot channel, the Ukrainian forces have already been forced back from Nekhoteyevka.

Belgorod’s governor calls for calm

At the same time, the governor of Belgorod, Vyacheslav Gladkov, urges his residents to keep calm.

“Our military is carrying out its work according to plan,” he writes on Telegram.

Ukraine states that it now has control over 100 Russian settlements, writes BBC. The area is said to be around 1,294 square kilometers in size and almost 600 Russian military personnel are said to have been captured.

A Reuters reporter on the ground reports that air raid sirens began wailing on Tuesday in Kurchatov in western Kursk, which could be a sign of looming missiles.
