LFI’s “anti-Macron” demonstration: a date set and many uncertainties

LFIs anti Macron demonstration a date set and many uncertainties

La France Insoumise is calling for a demonstration “against Emmanuel Macron’s coup”, considering that the president does not respect the result of the legislative elections.

Emmanuel Macron’s categorical refusal to appoint a Prime Minister implementing the NFP program is not going down well with the left. La France Insoumise is calling for “a large demonstration against the coup” by the President of the Republic. The date of this mobilization has been set for Saturday, September 7.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s party considers, in a press release published on Tuesday, August 27, that Emmanuel Macron “is putting democracy in serious danger by refusing the result of the ballot boxes and a government of the new popular front”. The rebels consider that the NFP “won the legislative elections” because it was the political coalition that obtained the most seats in the National Assembly.

“We hope that the political, trade union and associative forces attached to the defense of democracy will join this appeal,” adds La France Insoumise, which does not give any meeting place.

Several uncertainties still hang over this call for a demonstration “against Emmanuel Macron’s coup”. It is not known whether the other parties of the New Popular Front will participate. The PS, EELV and the PC clearly do not intend to follow LFI in all of their political actions. La France Insoumise, which wants a large-scale “popular” reaction to the non-appointment of Lucie Castets, has already announced that it will launch a procedure to impeach the head of state, which has no chance of succeeding. The other parties of the NFP are not in favor of it.

It is also unclear whether the September 7 demonstration will be followed by the country’s major trade union organizations, such as the CGT. Left-wing student unions will be present in the mobilizations.
