    Back to school is an important time for children and their parents. In kindergarten, it is crucial to prepare your child well for this new stage of his life. Here is a list of essential supplies for a successful return to school in kindergarten.

    By carefully preparing back-to-school supplies and following these tips, you can help your child start the school year with confidence and enthusiasm. Starting kindergarten is a crucial step, and good preparation can make all the difference for a successful start.

    List of supplies for going back to kindergarten

    The schoolbag

    A school bag that is suitable for little ones is essential. It should be lightweight, comfortable and easy for little hands to open and close. Opt for a model with adjustable and padded straps for greater comfort.

    Change of clothes

    Accidents are common in preschool. Plan a complete change of clothes (underwear, socks, pants, t-shirt) in a plastic bag marked with the child’s name. This allows you to deal with small incidents without stress.

    Easy-to-put-on shoes (and slippers)

    Choose shoes without laces, such as Velcro or elastic, so that your child can put them on and take them off alone. Independence is encouraged from a very young age in kindergarten. In some schools, slippers are required to move around the classroom. Slip on a pair that is easy to take on and off, like the models at Decathlon Or Bibalou (in very resistant leather).

    A blouse (or an apron) for creative workshops

    Creative activities, such as painting, are common. A waterproof smock or apron protects your child’s clothes. Make sure it is easy to put on and take off.

    A snack box

    Even though the canteen is often available, a small snack box for recess is practical. Choose a box that is easy for your child to open and close. Snacks should be balanced and easy to eat.

    A gourd

    A reusable water bottle keeps your child hydrated throughout the day. Choose a leak-proof, easy-to-use model to avoid leaks.

    Some basic supplies

    Although most supplies are usually provided by the school, it is helpful to have a few basic items:

    • Washable colored pencils and markers;
    • Glue sticks;
    • Round-tipped scissors;
    • Sheets of paper and notebooks.

    Labels

    It is important to label all of your child’s belongings with his or her name. Self-adhesive or iron-on labels are available for clothing, shoes, and supplies. This prevents loss and confusion.

    A small cuddly bag for nap time

    In preschool, nap time is an integral part of the day. A small bag with a blanket and a comforter (if allowed by the school) will help your child feel comfortable and rested.

    The comforter

    For some children, having a comforting object like a small book or a cuddly toy can be very calming, especially in the early days. Check with the school to see what is allowed.

    Some tips for a successful return to school

    • Get your child involved: shop together so they feel involved and excited about going back to school;
    • Prepare in advance: set up a routine a few days before the start of school so that your child gets used to the new schedule;
    • Visit the school: If possible, visit the school before the start of the school year so that the child can familiarize themselves with the premises and meet their teacher. Many schools offer this option to parents. Some even offer a gentle start with a first half-day so that children can acclimatize.

    And finally, enjoy this new adventure with your child. He will have plenty of things to tell you in the evening (new nursery rhymes, stories, playtime games, fun activities, etc.).
