In particular, the decrease observed for the total economy is due to the negative contribution from theindustrywhich records a negative variation of 0.2 percentage points. On the services side, however, a positive contribution of 0.1 percentage points is recorded. For companies with at least 10 employees, the vacancy rate is stable at 1.7%, decreasing in industry.

This is what emerged from the preliminary estimates of theIstat on the vacancy rate for the second quarter of 2024 for all enterprises with employees in industry and services (series available from 2016) and also for the subgroup of those with at least 10 employees (series available from 2004).

THE places vacant they refer to the personnel searches which, on the reference date (the last day of the quarter), have started and not yet ended. In other words, these are paid jobs (new or existing, provided they are vacant or about to become vacant) for which the employer is actively looking for a suitable candidate outside the company and is willing to make extra efforts to find one.

The vacancy rate is the relationship percentage between the number of vacancies and the sum of these with the occupied positions. This indicator can provide useful information to interpret the cyclical trend of the labor market, giving early signals on the number of occupied positions.
