Catalytic converter thefts decreased sharply during the first half of 2024, statistics from Larmtjänst show. During the period, 294 catalytic converters were stolen – a decrease of 91 percent compared to the same period last year.

One explanation could be that raw material prices for precious metals have fallen and that the most vulnerable models have become fewer due to age and scrapping.

During the period, 322 main headlights, 370 navigation equipment and 382 airbags were stolen. Overall, it is a small increase compared to last year.

Different car brands are exposed to different types of component theft. Cars of the BMW brand have the most navigator and airbag thefts, while Volvo is exposed to more thefts of main headlights and Toyota to catalytic converter thefts.
