Why do you get banana flies?

If you get banana flies in your home, it is very possible that you will find them in the kitchen. That’s because they have a love for garbage, fruit and open wine bottles, reports Live and Live.

So if you’ve been drinking wine on a hot summer evening, you’d better clean up after yourself, otherwise you might run into the vermin.

You might think that banana flies appear out of thin air, but that’s not true. It is not unusual to bring banana fly eggs home from the grocer when you buy fruit. The eggs are on the fruit and they are so small that they cannot be seen with the naked eye.

  • Put the fruit in the fridge. Banana flies thrive in warmth and by putting the fruit in the fridge you reduce their chance of finding food.
