The volcano on Iceland’s Reykjanes Peninsula has spewed ash and lava for the sixth time since December. The eruption, which occurred at 21:26 local time, caused minor tremors, according to the Icelandic Meteorological Office (IMO).

A TOWN WAS EVACUATED

The IMO announced that a magnitude 4.0 earthquake occurred at 22:37. The lava erupting from the volcano lit up the night sky, while the town of Grindavik on the peninsula was evacuated after the eruption. It was reported that flights in Iceland continued normally after the eruption.

6TH EXPLOSION SINCE DECEMBER

Two volcanoes on the country’s Reykjanes Peninsula erupted on December 18, 2023 and January 14. Approximately 4,000 people living in the town of Grindavik were evacuated in November as a precaution before the December eruption, and a small portion of the town’s residents returned to the region.
