A clean-up patrol on Thursday descended Corcovado mountain in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to clean up trash dumped on the slope below the famous Jesus statue that overlooks the city.

The cleaning patrol, hired by the municipal cleaning company, are certified mountain climbers and are also hired to clean other mountains and slopes around the city.

The engineer Paulo Maurício who supervised the work of the climbers said that the litter picking is important because, among other things, it reduces the risk of fire and the “visual pollution”.
