Borderlands 4 boss says the person in the trailer is not the one everyone thinks of

A trailer for Borderlands 4 was finally presented at gamescom 2024. It doesn’t show much, but the community is already developing many theories. For many it was clear who the person in the trailer was, but Randy Pitchford refutes the fans’ assumptions.

What can you see in the trailer? The gamescom trailer for Borderlands 4 was the first sign of life for the latest installment in the loot shooter series. Many fans reacted well to the new trailer. This is good news for fans, especially after the disastrous film.

The trailer doesn’t actually show that much. You see a moon, perhaps Elpis, and crystals that cause meteorites to rain down. At the end of the trailer, an unknown figure with a robotic arm picks up the familiar psycho mask.

Many fans suspected that it was Handsome Jack. However, the head of Gearbox Software denied this theory.

Webedia Gaming (GameStar, GamePro, MeinMMO) is accompanying the big gaming event as the official media partner of Gamescom 2024. It will be an exciting week for everyone who makes their way to gamescom. But also on screen, because there will be more streams – for example the FYNG show from GameStar, GamePro and MeinMMO.

Not Handsome Jack, but something much worse

Why did fans think it was Handsome Jack? In the trailer, there is a hidden chamber symbol that looks similar to the scar that Jack got in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. Borderlands content creator JoltzDude1 posted the comparison on x.com.

Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox Software, denied the theory in the tweet and said: This is not Handsome Jack. This is something much more dangerous and sinister. Pitchford did not explain any more about the character, but in the comments on the response you can see that many people want Jack back.

Why is Handsome Jack so popular? In Borderlands 2, Handsome Jack accompanies the player on his journey from the very beginning. He insults the players and regularly talks about how rich and great he is. But he always does this in a likeable way. He simply has a certain charm and is a contrast to the many other characters on Pandora.

Handsome Jack was so popular that he could be played as his double in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.

What other theories are there? The fact that the character in the trailer is Handsome Jack is of course not the only theory. The characters in the trailer remind many fans of the Watcher. The Watcher is a character who appeared at the end of The Pre-Sequel and hinted at a great war. But there was no trace of him in Borderlands 3.
