Twitch has announced a new subscription price hike on its website, coming just two months after the previous price increase.
Bad news for Twitch streamers and their subscribers. The company has just announced in a press release that the price of subscriptions on the site and mobile application will increase shortly. This change will be effective from October 1st for new subscribers and November 1st for subscription renewals:
“Starting October 1st, we are increasing the price of Tier 1 and Gifted Subscriptions on the mobile app in 40 countries. We are notifying affected streamers and subscribers via email.”
This increase concerns, at a minimum, the United States but also other countries not yet announced. However, the news did not take long to make teeth grind within the various streamer communities.
It’s worth noting, however, that this increase currently only applies to subscriptions purchased through Twitch’s mobile app on Android and iOS. This could be a way for Amazon, which owns Twitch, to offset the pricing on both mobile operating systems.
The increase brings the price of the sub tier 1 to $7.99. The subscription price had already increased in early July from $4.99 to $5.99. This represents an increase of nearly 60% in just four months for the live video streaming platform.
