Many French people have recently received this fake SMS.
“Your last payment was declined, please confirm your information before your account is suspended.” Recently, many French people have received this text message. Its origin? Netflix. At least, that’s what the text in capital letters at the beginning of the text indicates. The message alerts you to the upcoming end of your subscription to the streaming platform because the monthly payment has not been paid to the American company.
To overcome this problem, a link is even inserted so that you can easily settle your debt. By clicking on it, a carbon copy of the Netflix homepage opens. You are then asked to enter your email address and password to access the account and pay your debt.
But be careful, you should not do it. Neither click on the link nor enter your login details. Everything is absolutely false. Like many other SMS of the same type, this is a scam. To easily detect it, two elements must be checked: the sender and, above all, the link added to the message. Here, it is obviously not the official website of the platform but a pirate site with a name that has nothing to do with the giant of films and series.
Netflix states that if SMS or emails are to be sent to customers, they are purely informative, do not contain any links and do not ask, under any circumstances, to provide personal information, either about your identity or your means of payment. It is therefore necessary to delete any message containing this type of information. If a problem needs to be resolved with the platform, this will only be done via the customer account, directly on the official website. In case of doubt when receiving an SMS, you should consult your personal space or write to Netflix support.
For some of the recipients of this fraudulent message, however, there is no need to worry. Indeed, the criminals did not perfect their scam to the point of only sending the SMS to customers of the streaming site. Thus, people who do not have an account with the American giant also received this fake reminder. The aim was perhaps to sow doubt among some who do not remember who the account holder is.
