He will watch your every move and you won’t even notice it…
One of the missions of supermarkets today, apart from making us sell their products, is to prevent theft as much as possible. Every day, products disappear from the shelves of supermarkets without being paid for. Thieves most often target high-value items such as alcohol, electronic products or cosmetics. Added up, this represents a significant financial loss for stores. To deal with this, supermarkets must find solutions to deter malicious people.
In general, they invest in expensive security systems, such as anti-theft gates, security personnel or even surveillance cameras. The latter are easily recognizable by their shape, sometimes imposing, and by their small red light point, a sign that they are working. Eventually, the most cunning thieves develop their little habits and know how to outwit the cameras or even the security guards.
But in recent years, supermarkets have been equipped with a completely new device, much more ingenious and which above all lets nothing slip through. These are cameras equipped with artificial intelligence (AI). The tool in question is capable of tracking potential thieves and analyzing all their gestures. In concrete terms, if a person discreetly slips a product under their jacket, as if they were finally putting away their phone, the AI ββis capable of spotting the suspicious gesture.
The system then sends an alert to the store’s security, which is responsible for analyzing the captured images. If the crime is confirmed, the agents can intervene, which makes it possible to identify the most cunning criminals. Even for small businesses, this can be a solution to delegate the surveillance of their store. In addition, this type of camera would be less expensive than a security guard. In our territory, more than 1,500 establishments are already equipped with them.
