Duplantis won – did not attempt a world record

The pole vault star Armand Duplantis was back on Wednesday evening after the Olympic success in Paris, where he won both gold and a world record.
He won the Diamond League competition in Lausanne after clearing 6 meters. However, there was no attempt at the world record this evening.

Duplantis cleared the opening two heights and entered the competition at 5.62 – a height he unsurprisingly sailed over without any trouble whatsoever.

Nor did 5.82 cause any problems for the Swede, who also flew over the subsequent height, 5.92. There, however, the competitors began to struggle.

Of the five competitors who accompanied Duplantis to the top, only Olympic silver medalist Sam Kendricks of the United States made it and kept the competition alive.

On 6 metres, Duplantis was then able to secure victory in the competition. He passed in the first attempt, while the American ripped three times and had to admit defeat.

The Swede then raised the bar to 6.15 – a new competition record. There came the first demolition of the evening for Duplantis. The second attempt was not successful either, but in the third he flew over the crossbar.

However, the large audience in place did not get to see any attempts at the world record height of 6.26 this evening. Duplantis thanked himself after 6.15 and praised the audience for their support in the competition speaker’s microphone.

I was very tired there towards the end, but you lifted me up when I needed it the most, thank you very much, he says.
