Milan Venice two new sections of railway line built

(Telestock) – Two new sections of line for seven kilometers total of new route in variant between Verona and Vicenza, on the railway line Milan-Venice. Rete Ferroviaria Italiana has completed the necessary interventions for theactivation of new works, fundamental in the works of the AV/AC line “Verona – Vicenza Crossroads” – funded by funds PNRR – being preparatory to the construction of the new tracks. Today, August 21, circulation was thus reopened between Verona and Vicenza, at the end of the scheduled interruption to build the new infrastructure.

The works had been entrusted by RFI to the General Contractor Iricav Due, with high surveillance and management of the works entrusted to Italferr, an engineering company of the FS Group. The new sections of the line extend respectively for 1.2 km between Verona Porta Vescovo and San Martino Buon Albergo and for 5.8 km between Montebello Vicentino and Montecchio Maggiore.

The interruption also included further interventions, always functional to the future AV/AC Verona – Vicenza line: construction of two new underpasses in the municipality of Lonigo, of the underpass in the Altavilla Vicentina station, of the new platforms at the Lonigo station, activities connected to the new overpass over the railway line and the provincial road SP34 del Melaro, in Montecchio Maggiore, extraordinary maintenance of the shelters of the second and third platforms at the Vicenza station, as well as demolition of some service buildings in the railway areas near the Vicenza station.

RFI has also carried out maintenance and technological updating activities with the renewal of the functional track equipment to improve the reliability of the infrastructure. In addition to this, planimetric and altimetric adjustments of the track have been planned in the San Bonifacio station, which will involve the replacement of switches with relative control boxes and corresponding adjustment of the electric traction.

Finally, vegetation control activities were carried out and, in synergy with the Municipality of Caldiero, work was carried out on the railway overpass at km 163+998 of the Milan – Venice line.total investment is 114 million euros.

As foreseen by the rules in case of infrastructure renewal, full speed on the sections affected by the works must be reached gradually. For this reason, until August 26, an increase in travel times is expected, already calculated and visible on the purchasing systems of the railway companies. From Tuesday 27 August, trains will once again travel the entire line at full speed.
