Veronica Lin’s son Marcus Lindgren has received emails from Chinese police, reports SVT. They want help getting information about the Swedish investigation against Veronica Lin’s ex-husband – the billionaire You Lin.

“I am the Chinese police officer handling the case where xxx is suspected of murder,” says the email, which is supposed to come from a person posing as a representative of the Chinese police.

According to the information, the ex-husband is now under arrest in China, suspected of murder.

    – It was unexpected. It’s been so long. It almost felt like my father was invulnerable, says their common son Marcus Lindgren to SVT.

Prosecutor Ulrika Bentelius Egelrud tells Aftonbladet that she has received the information, but that she has not yet received it officially confirmed.

    Two murders

It was in March 2003 that the mother of young children Veronica Lin, 30, was found murdered in a neighbor’s apartment in Högsbo in Gothenburg. The neighbor was initially suspected of the murder, but he was found a little over a month later himself murdered and buried under the balcony outside the apartment.

Instead, the suspicions were directed at the man Veronica Lin was divorcing, a Chinese businessman who is also the father of the son Marcus Lindgren.

    – There was technical evidence against him. And he had been in contact with the man who is believed to have carried out some of the acts, says prosecutor Ulrika Bentelius Egelrud.

The trial had to be rescheduled

In 2016, ex-husband You Lin is sentenced to life imprisonment for inciting the murder of Veronica Lin. But because one of the jurors tweeted about the case during the trial, the district court was considered to have been harsh. The trial therefore had to be retried in the Gothenburg district court and a few months later the ex-husband was fully acquitted.

    – With that, he was free to move wherever he wanted. But I appealed the verdict, says prosecutor Ulrika Bentelius Egelrud.

But when it came time for appeal court hearings, You Lin did not show up and has since stayed away.

Now the ex-husband You Lin is to be detained in China on suspicion of murder, according to SVT’s information.

    – I cannot confirm the information. I am seeking confirmation of that myself through my official channels, says prosecutor Ulrika Bentelius Egelrud.

What would it mean for the appeal court proceedings surrounding the murder of Veronica Lin if you get a confirmation?

    – It depends a little. If he is detained, we can theoretically serve him with suspicion. But what also matters in substance is whether he is now in custody for our suspicions, or whether it concerns another murder, says Ulrika Bentelius Egelrud.
